Additional Information

Choosing a Table Size

When shopping for a dining table, consider the following first:

  • How often you host or need seating for more than 4.
  • What other uses (i.e. outside dining) you envision for your table.
  • The size of the room.

Second, to get an idea of the maximum size table your space will allow, measure the room.

Fold a sheet to the approximate size and shape you envision for your table and lay it on the floor. Measure from the wall to the sheet to get a visual idea of what size table will fit comfortably. To provide adequate room for people sitting at the table to get up, push their chair back, and walk around the table, aim for at least 48” from the edge of the table to the nearest wall or a piece of furniture.

Tabletop Size

  • For tabletop area, allow a minimum of 24” per guest, (but 30” is better for more elbow room).
  • For rectangular tables (the most popular table shape), add 12” of depth to each end for guests seated at the head and foot of the table.
  • For leg tables, measure for the additional 12” from either the head or foot of the table to the first person sitting on the right or left.

Table Width

Most dining tables are 36” wide, which leaves room for place settings and serving pieces. Keep in mind that dining tables wider than 48” will be more difficult to reach across.

Table Shapes

The size you choose will be determined by the shape that best fits your needs and style.

Rectangular: Classic and versatile. Most popular dining table shape.

Rectangular Table Size

  • 72” long seats eight comfortably, with one person at each end.
  • 96” long seats 10 comfortably, with one person at each end.
  • 120” long seats 12 comfortably, with one person at each end.

Amish Falcon Trestle Table

The Amish Falcon Trestle Table in the popular rectangular shape is shown in cherry with an onyx base.

Round: Create a casual and intimate atmosphere instantly.

Round Table Top

  • 36”- 48” diameter will comfortably seat four.
  • 60” diameter will comfortably seat six.
  • 72” diameter will comfortably seat eight.

Amish Ensenada Single Pedestal Table

The Amish Ensenada Single Pedestal Table is available with a 48” or 54” diameter and standard or counter height.

Oval: No sharp edges. Offer flexibility for guests seated at ends, bringing them together for easy conversation.

Oval Table Size

  • 60” Oval table can seat up to 6.
  • 97” Oval table can seat up to 8.
  • 102” Oval table can seat up to 8.
  • 120” Oval table can seat up to 12.

Amish Normandy Pedestal Dining Table

Some round tables turn into oval tables when leaves are added, like our Normandy Pedestal Table shown in our Sarasota, FL store.

Dining tables with extensions are a convenient way to seat more people on special occasions. Check out the four main types in action in our handy table extension video.

Table Height

Tables can be built in three heights: Table, counter, and bar.

Table Heights

  • Most standard dining tables are 29”- 31” high. This traditional height is more formal and is ideal for hosting regular family dinners and celebrations. Since this is the most common height, you’ll find the widest variety of styles.

Amish Bradbury Double Pedestal Dining Room Table

The Amish Bradbury Double Pedestal Dining Room Table can be custom-made in several sizes to fit your needs.
  • Counter height tables are 34”- 36” high, and create a more casual dining experience. The added height creates the illusion that the table takes up less space.

Amish Ripple Back Pedestal Table

The Amish Ripple Back Pedestal Table in counter height pairs beautifully with Amish Ripple Back Bar Stools.
  • Bar height tables are generally 40”- 42” high. They create a casual atmosphere, and their height and width make them ideal for small spaces.

Warranty

EAST EARL COLLECTION FURNITURE WARRANTY

All furniture in our East Earl Collection are guaranteed to be free from defects for the lifetime of the original owner, subject to normal use, after the date of purchase and receipt of the purchaser.

This warranty does not cover upholstery fabrics nor damages which result from neglect, abuse or acts of nature, damage or wear to any swivel mechanisms, normal wear and tear, exposure to extremes in temperature or humidity, water damages due to immersion, fading or discoloration in finish over time, scratches, blemishes or slight color variations in wood grain, minor size variations, unauthorized repairs, alterations or misuse of the item, breakage or scratching of table tops.

Chairs, bar stools, and settees are intended only for seating. Tables are to be used only for dining. China hutches and buffets are intended to be used only for storage and display. Any other use could be harmful and invalidate this warranty.

Should service under this warranty be needed, the purchaser must contact the dealer from which the item was purchased and return the item to the dealer. The manufacturer’s obligation, under this limited warranty, at the option of the manufacturer, is to repair if possible or replace the product with an equal type if available, within sixty days from the receipt of a written recommendation from the dealer or factory representative, and only if the product is found to be defective under normal household use and service. Repairs and/or replacements under this warranty will be made solely by the manufacturer and its sole discretion authorizes, at no charges to the purchaser. If the dealer or representative finds it necessary to return the product to the factory, all packing and shipping costs will be charged to the purchaser. The purchaser will pay any and all costs for delivery to and from the dealer.

The manufacturer applies a quality catalyzed finish to all paint and/or satinwood finishes on all the products. Each table top receives extra care in the finish process to provide optimum durability throughout the years. This finish has been tested to resist spills and stains from a wide variety of household ammonia. These tests were performed with 24-hour contact and no effect on the finish. Hot liquids and objects should not contact the finish surface directly. Use placemats, pads, and coasters to protect the finish on the tabletops. Heat can quickly discolor the finish on your furniture.

Important! Completely cover your table for the first 3-months of use until the finish reaches its maximum hardness. Do not use any furniture polish or furniture treatment on your tabletop for the initial 6-months of ownership. You can clean your table anytime with a warm, soapy, damp cloth gently applied to the surface. After the catalyzed finish has reached its full potential of hardness at 6-months, the periodic use of high-quality non-silicone and non-citrus furniture polish is recommended. Solid wood is a natural fiber. Therefore, it will shrink and swell with the seasons. Take care not to expose your heirloom furniture to the extremes in temperature and humidity. Season cracks may appear if humidity is not maintained at 30-40%.

Do not expose directly to sunlight and heat sources. Tabletop joints between leaves will gap slightly in the center or edges depending on the humidity of the season. Solid wood changes color over time under normal conditions of light exposure. Lighter finishes are the most vulnerable to this wood darkening, so move table decor around periodically so silhouettes do not appear on the tabletop.

With proper care, your Signature Hardwood will give you service and satisfaction for years to come. Finishes resist water marks and most other stains.
