How Much Does Custom Furniture Cost?

Handcrafted Amish Furniture represents a fairly affordable segment of the premium furniture market. Many people hear the words "custom furniture" and they cringe in fear of a runaway cost. The reality is, most of the furniture found on DutchCrafters is already handmade after you order it, making it more affordable than many people assume. The woodshops still have to draft new plans and charge for the extra material, labor, time, and resources used to create your heirloom-quality, customized masterpiece.

What Is the STURDY Act?

The STURDY (Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth) Act, modified in April 2023 went into effect on September 1st, 2023. The new law only applies to specific bedroom clothing storage furniture.

What Does This Mean for Consumers?

Some furniture may require certain modifications to comply. These changes may include but are not limited to drawer interlock systems, counterweights, reduced drawer slide extensions, and in some cases minor changes to the case box dimensions.

What is an Interlock System?

Interlock systems are designed to allow only one drawer to open at a time, thereby reducing the risk of clothing storage furniture becoming unstable.

How are Counterweights Used?

Counterweights may be used on their own or in combination with other measures to help stabilize clothing storage furniture. They are installed on the interior of the product near the back, not altering or affecting the aesthetics of the furniture piece.

Other Measures Being Adopted to Meet Standards

When needed, furniture may be offered only with ¾ extension slides rather than full extension if required to meet the STURDAY Act testing standards. In addition, alterations in the actual drawer box and overall furniture dimensions may also be required to assist in meeting the testing standards.

Overview

Ready for family meals and gatherings, the Amish Kimberley Extension Table brightens the dining room or kitchen with authentic reclaimed barnwood. With a grand trestle base that draws the eye and offers more leg room, the Kimberley is handcrafted to perfection in an Amish woodshop in Ohio.

There are four sizes to choose from to best fit your dining room or kitchen. The table top is reclaimed barnwood that's salvaged from old barns and given new life, its markings and weathered spots creating a natural character rich with history. The base is made of maple wood, strong like reclaimed and easy to sculpt and stain.

There's even more room for customizing. You can add up to 4 extensions to this table, and if you'd like to have it in counter or bar height, no problem. Enjoy meals and time with family at a table that will last for generations.

Please email, call or chat with us today. We are happy to answer all your questions.
