How Much Does Custom Furniture Cost?

Handcrafted Amish Furniture represents a fairly affordable segment of the premium furniture market. Many people hear the words "custom furniture" and they cringe in fear of a runaway cost. The reality is, most of the furniture found on DutchCrafters is already handmade after you order it, making it more affordable than many people assume. The woodshops still have to draft new plans and charge for the extra material, labor, time, and resources used to create your heirloom-quality, customized masterpiece.

What Is the STURDY Act?

The STURDY (Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth) Act, modified in April 2023 went into effect on September 1st, 2023. The new law only applies to specific bedroom clothing storage furniture.

What Does This Mean for Consumers?

Some furniture may require certain modifications to comply. These changes may include but are not limited to drawer interlock systems, counterweights, reduced drawer slide extensions, and in some cases minor changes to the case box dimensions.

What is an Interlock System?

Interlock systems are designed to allow only one drawer to open at a time, thereby reducing the risk of clothing storage furniture becoming unstable.

How are Counterweights Used?

Counterweights may be used on their own or in combination with other measures to help stabilize clothing storage furniture. They are installed on the interior of the product near the back, not altering or affecting the aesthetics of the furniture piece.

Other Measures Being Adopted to Meet Standards

When needed, furniture may be offered only with ¾ extension slides rather than full extension if required to meet the STURDAY Act testing standards. In addition, alterations in the actual drawer box and overall furniture dimensions may also be required to assist in meeting the testing standards.

Overview

Customize the look of this Amish made French Country dining chair by selecting from our many options.  This chair measures 38" high by 21" wide and 19" deep.  The seat height is 18" and the seat depth is 16".

The Dining Chair Wood Options are:

  1. The standard wood option is oak wood.  Oak furniture creates a warm ambiance in any room.
  2. Upgrade to beautiful Pennsylvania cherry wood. Cherry wood furniture brings in a distinguished beauty.
  3. Upgrade your chair wood option to Brown Maple wood to match your existing dining table.

The Seat Options for the American Made Dining Chair are:

  1. A hardwood seat in your choice of oak, cherry or maple is the standard choice.
  2. Upholstered seat in your choice of fabric or leather.
  3. A handwoven fiber seat is one of our more popular choices for this dining chair.  The handwoven fiber seat is similar to a rush woven style. The handwoven fiber option is more uniform in appearance and more friendly to clothing then woven rush seats.
  4. Customers can also provide their own fabric or leather.  Generally we need 1/2 yard of fabric or leather per seat.

Finish Options for Dining Chair are:

  • The entire chair can be stained, painted or done in a two tone stain and paint combination.
  • You can choose to order our regular semi gloss conversion varnish or a flat matte sheen conversions varnish which is most popular on our painted finishes.
  • Light Distressing can be added to the dining chairs.  With light distressing, customers can expect to receive glazing to replicate a rich natural patina, light distressing, slightly eased edges, nicks and extensive pinholes in the furniture.
  • Heavy Distressing can also be added to this chair.  This is our ultimate antique looking finish. Rub-through of the rich patina are masterfully punctuated with another level of extensive nicks, pin holes, eased edges, simulated cracks and other distressing techniques to bespeak several centuries of robust wear and loving care.

Please call to receive finish samples for this American made dining chair or stop by one of our Amish furniture stores.
