How Much Does Custom Furniture Cost?

The reality is, most of the furniture found on DutchCrafters is already handmade after you order it, making it more affordable than many people assume. The woodshops still have to draft new plans and charge for the extra material, labor, time, and resources used to create your heirloom-quality, customized masterpiece.

With some of the best finishing techniques available, you are sure to find the perfect look for your home & furniture. This entire collection is crafted from solid Eastern White Pine Wood, which is an ideal canvas for the assortment of paints and stains available.

The three main finish types available for all pieces in this collection include:

  • Standard Finish - Traditional colors that offer a vintage look and is normally combined with one of our distressing options for time-worn finish.
  •  Afresh Finish - Bright, bold colors inspired by today's move toward lively hues that lift the spirits. Great for children's furniture or for the trendy cottage style that embraces bright contrasting colors.
  • Milk Paint Finish - An organic, non-toxic, and environmentally safe finish option that is hand brushed & slightly crackled with a hand rubbed wax top coat. Made from all natural materials such as milk, clay, limestone, chalk, and tinted with earth pigments.

Qualities of Pine Furniture

Pine wood is a soft, lightweight, stable wood. It can be carved and takes well to machine and hand tools. It does dent and scratch easier than hardwoods, but this is often what gives pine furniture its character. It is also a very economical, sturdy wood. Pine furniture blends well with other woods making it easy to mix and match with other wood furniture. Pine is durable and holds its shape exceptionally well.

Look of Pine Furniture

Pine wood is whitish or pale yellow and has a straight grain with a fine, uniform texture. It is lightweight and may have more knotholes than other woods. Pine takes both stains and paints well and is often used for painted furniture. It is also a great candidate for distressing. Pine furniture may develop a yellowish resin which may bleed through lighter finishes. This is a natural trait of pine that contributes to its unique character.

Pine has been traditionally used for country, cottage, and shabby-chic style furniture with distressed finishes. In more recent years pine has started to be used to make contemporary style furniture, such as mid-century modern and Scandinavian designs. It has also become the choice for solid wood furniture at trendy furniture stores because it is more economical.
