Additional Information

Choosing Dining Chairs

Keep in mind that your table type will affect how your dining chairs will fit. Pedestal tables and trestle tables will allow more room than leg tables since chairs have to fit between the table legs.

  • The average dining chair is 16”- 20” wide. Measure dining chairs at their widest point, and add 6” to ensure there is enough room between chairs for people to move comfortably. Depending on the style of the chair, the widest point may be on the seat or chair back.
  • Try to allow for 12 inches between the chair seat height and the table top, no matter the table height, to ensure everyone has enough room to sit comfortably.
  • Leave seven inches between the chair arm height and the table apron (bottom edge of the table).

Chair Heights

Chairs can be built in three heights: Standard, counter, and bar or gathering height.

Chair Height Image

  • Less formal than standard chairs, counter height chairs are 24” – 26” tall. Their added height creates the illusion of taking up less space.

Amish Livingston Contemporary Bar Stool

The Livingston Contemporary Bar Stool is available in counter or bar height.
  • Bar/gathering height chairs are 28”- 30” tall. They are ultra-cool and casual and fit well in smaller spaces.

Amish Harris Bar Stool

The Amish Harris Bar Stool can be built in counter or bar height.

Side and Arm Chairs

Arms add about 6” to the overall width of a dining chair. If space is limited, consider using armless dining chairs, or only use arm chairs at the head and foot of the table.

  • Side chairs take up less space visually and physically.
  • Arm chairs are often used at the head and foot of the table. They offer added comfort with a place to rest the arms.

How Much Does Custom Furniture Cost?

Handcrafted Amish Furniture represents a fairly affordable segment of the premium furniture market. Many people hear the words "custom furniture" and they cringe in fear of a runaway cost. The reality is, most of the furniture found on DutchCrafters is already handmade after you order it, making it more affordable than many people assume. The woodshops still have to draft new plans and charge for the extra material, labor, time, and resources used to create your heirloom-quality, customized masterpiece.

Overview

These Amish Ellison Mission Dining Chairs have a classic look that stays current, contributing to a traditional collection or a contemporary scene.  Choose to have this handcrafted in our popular oak wood or quarter sawn oak wood if you want to stick with woods that are typical for Mission furniture.  We also offer other hardwoods such as brown maple, cherry, elm, hard maple or rustic cherry.  Stain samples are available before or after an order is placed to help you match these mission chairs to existing furniture.  We can also do custom stain matching upon request.

If you are looking for commercial quality mission chairs then these are sure to fit your needs.  We can build our dining room chairs to withstand the rigors of restaurant use.

The Old Order Amish woodworker that builds these chairs personally inspects the chairs from start to finish often running his hands over each dining chair before it goes to finishing.  Each chair is hand sanded with the same grit sandpaper until they are smooth to touch for finishing.  Choose side and arm chair styles to complete your collection and consider distressing options for an antique, time worn look.

Call us today with any questions about our solid wood dining room chairs. You can reach us at 941-867-2233 or by stopping by our Amish furniture store in Sarasota, Florida.

We are so happy with our dining room table and chairs! The color is exactly what I wanted and we are in awe of the workmanship. We would like to personally thank the craftsman who created our table and chairs. What a lovely skill he has been blessed with.
DutchCrafters provided a wonderful shopping experience. Ashley helped me immensely, sending me stains and always remained in contact. Customer service was excellent. The chair delivery went smoothly, and he was very nice and waited till I inspected my chairs. The quality of my new kitchen chairs is superb. They are solid wood and strong.
