The chime top and striker are actually made out of poly lumber - a durable, environmentally friendly, alternative to wood. The best part about poly lumber is that it won't crack or rot, and is virtually maintenance free! The aluminum tubes are powder coated in "amethyst hammertone" lavender color, which means it is more resistant to the harsh outdoor elements. Another unique feature about this Amish made wind chime is that it comes standard with o-rings at the bottom of each tube. These act like little bumpers that reduce the clanging of the tubes, for more peaceful and relaxing tones.
